What You Need for Modge Podge Tray

  1. Modge Podge TrayWooden tray (from a craft store or online)
  2. Paint (we used spray paint)
  3. Decorative paper (magazines, photos, or Sugar Lulu paper)
  4. Mod Podge (from a craft store or online)
  5. Paint brush
  6. Ruler
  7. Scissors
  8. Small throw away box (we used the bottom of a shoe box)
  9. Large garbage bag or newspaper (to put under tray when painting)

Directions for Modge Podge Tray

Place box on top of garbage bag, then place tray on top of box. This is to protect the ground and elevate the box for easy painting. Paint tray following directions on paint can or bottle. Let paint dry.

If using Sugar Lulu paper, trim the white edges. Lay out the paper on the tray before gluing down. You can play around with the paper until you like the way it looks. We lined it up to look like one large piece but you can use different patterns and make a collage or just tear the paper up to make a random design.

If you want to line it up like we did, tape the paper together on the back so that it lines up exactly, then trim with scissors so that it fits exactly into your tray.

Glue down the paper with Mod Podge. Paint a layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper to seal. Let it dry according to the directions on the bottle. Viola!

Birthday Gifts for Besties

Posted on

Birthday party invites are super fun to get but attending with an original gift in hand can be super tricky to maneuver. Yep, we are sure that lots of your girlies will love a cute Brandy shirt as much as the next (we do!), but sometimes, especially for your besties, you want to kick it up a notch.

So, we say, instead of looking for that one perfect something, why don’t you get a few items that would make perfect sense together in a basket? Now, don’t worry, we’re not suggesting those few items are each at the top of your budget. Instead consider less pricey things that she would love and get her more of them. Then you can wrap them all together in a cute container or just in some colorful fabric or cellophane for an equally fabulous presentation.

If your soul sister is obsessed with spas, perfecto. Put together a package that will leave her spending hours pampering herself: get (or make) a yummy scented bath balm, some lotions, a mani/pedi set with some fun nail colors, some facial masks and of course a cute hair band to keep her locks off her face.

If fashion is her thing, go for accessories overload! Think of everything from hair ties, sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets, rings, tattoos and socks. If you want to add to it with a substantial item, think about a jewelry armoire or a decorative box in which she can hold some of the gear—and that can double as a spot to place the goods when you wrap them up.

For a beauty girl, shower her with makeup. Lip glosses, eye shadows and liners, mascara, blushes, bronzers, brushes and nail polishes. And don’t make them all full size—if there are some things you know she’s never used, look for them in trial containers so she can test out a few new treats. Put it all in a box or a basket that she can set out for display.

Or, if your bestie rocks a bunch of different desires, then get a basket that mixes it all up from art supplies to fashion bits, stuff to decorate her room and more!

Whatever you decide, don’t forget to include a card that comes straight from your heart.

Even the most solid one piece gets a little edgy with cut out patterns along the side seams or bodice. Some suits sport a simple cut out for effect while others might tie together a series of them—literally—with a lace-up look. One tip: If you go for this style, don’t forget to cover the exposed spots with plenty of sunscreen!

Ruffles and piping are all the rage. Look for the flouncy flairs and crisp edging along top and bottom hems of bikinis or along the neckline and across the waist of one pieces. Both  ruffles and piping can add a monochromatic detail to suits or one made from complementing colors and patterns.
